About Podbox

I’m Alan Hawthorne, and Podbox is me. I trained as an architect at the University of Strathclyde and worked in practice before leaving to make things instead, and I’ve been running Podbox since 2012.

It started in a back room in Cumbernauld, grew into a laser studio in Glasgow, and is now a full timber workshop in Kilsyth. In 2027 we’re moving back to Cumbernauld, taking the whole unit this time.

Today the work is mostly exhibitions, museum display and production CNC runs for designers, museums and brands, from one-off builds to a couple of hundred identical pieces. If you have a timber product or exhibition that needs manufacturing, get in touch.
