Laser cutting and engraving timber is a service offered by Podbox laser.  The maximum sheet width is 620mm.  The length is unlimited due collapsable side walls in the laser machine which allow sheets to be fed through.  The thickness of timber that can be cut depends on a number of factors such as flammability and the density of wood grain.  

Laser engraving timber is also possible and, with a variable bed depth, the machine can be adapted to accommodate a variety of objects such as bird box, a wooden drawer front or a picture frame.

Timber is an enjoyable material to laser cut.  The burning process can add texture and character to an object which is different from the sanded edge typically associated with a handworked timber object.  The laser cutting process can be carefully managed to control the quality of surface finish.  Power and speed of laser can be adjusted along with the pressurised air supply through the laser head to control the process.
